Newsletter: Stricter Norwegian rules on short sales

On 5 March 2010, the Norwegian Ministry of Finance put forward proposals that will impose further restrictions on short selling in Norway. The restrictions will also apply to non-Norwegian investors and investment firms.

The Norwegian Sovereign Wealth Fund (formally called the “Government Pension Fund Global” and popularly named the “Oil Fund”) has been authorised by its owner, the Norwegian Ministry of Finance, to invest in real estate through new rules that entered into force on 1 March 2010.

The Service Directive implemented in Norway as the Norwegian Service Act
The Service Directive has been implemented into Norwegian law as the Norwegian Service Act. The Act entered into force on 28 December 2009. The Service Act will make it easier for service providers from the EEA to become established and provide services in Norway.
